Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was detained by Delhi Police on Saturday while marching towards Jantar Mantar to join a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The former Delhi chief minister was stopped by police outside his residence amid heightened security across central Delhi.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal criticised the Centre over the security restrictions imposed in the area ahead of the CJP protest. He described the measures as “worse than Emergency” and condemned the detention of the organisation’s senior leaders.

The protest was called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of “vote theft”. The demonstration took place amid a heavy police presence and preventive action against protesters and political leaders.
