Chicago Med Season 12 opens with a hospital in crisis, a deadly wedding shooting and a major twist in Sharon Goodwin’s ongoing battle to save her job. The October 7 premiere, titled Shots Fired, picks up three months after the Season 11 finale. Goodwin is no longer running Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, Dr. Daniel Charles is struggling with their fractured friendship, and the hospital is trying to function under new leadership.

Nurse Doris shows up at Goodwin’s home and admits that she was the person who leaked Dr. Theo Rabari’s medical records, the very violation that put Goodwin’s career at risk.

Does that mean Goodwin is finally in the clear? Not necessarily. Here’s what happened in the Chicago Med Season 12 premiere and what Doris’ confession could mean for the episodes ahead.

Who Leaked Sharon Goodwin’s HIPAA Files?

The Season 11 finale left Goodwin facing accusations that she leaked Theo Rabari’s private medical records to prevent him from taking Charles’ job. Goodwin refused to accept the blame, but her decision to take voluntary leave rather than immediately resolve the matter left questions hanging over her future.

In the Season 12 premiere, board member Miranda Lewis continues to put pressure on her. Miranda offers Goodwin a deal that would require her to step down indefinitely. Goodwin refuses, determined to fight for her position and discover what actually happened.

Miranda gives her a 36-hour ultimatum, making it clear that the consequences could be serious if she does not accept the deal. Goodwin also questions whether Miranda’s treatment of her is motivated by racism or ageism. Miranda does not provide a reassuring answer, leaving their conflict unresolved. Then Doris arrives at Goodwin’s doorstep.
