Carlos Alcaraz will start his Shanghai Masters 2026 campaign against Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round on Saturday, October 10, at the Qizhong Tennis Center in Shanghai, China. The Spanish star arrives in China after winning the ATP 500 Japan Open title in Tokyo earlier this week, while Cerundolo secured his place in the second round with a straight-sets victory over Nicolas Mejia.
The world No. 3 and second seed in Shanghai received a first-round bye and will play his opening match of the tournament against Cerundolo. The 23-year-old Spaniard heads into the match in strong form after defeating Jiri Lehecka 7–6(4), 6–4 in the Tokyo final to claim the Japan Open title. He has also enjoyed a successful 2026 season, winning titles in Australia, Doha and Tokyo, despite a long injury layoff. The Spaniard is still chasing his first Shanghai Masters title.
Cerundolo, meanwhile, enters the match after defeating Colombia’s Nicolas Mejia 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round. The 24-year-old Argentine is ranked world No. 55 and has enjoyed a productive season, including a title at the Bordeaux Challenger. He also made headlines at the French Open with a surprise victory over Jannik Sinner.
