The BJP in Nagpur has attacked Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, saying he was suffering from a "mental disorder" and spreading "anarchy" in the country, evoking a sharp reaction from the Congress, which said the Leader of Opposition had become the voice of the common man.

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), led by BJP city chief Dayashankar Tiwari, performed symbolic 'pind daan' and 'tarpan' rituals for former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi at Variety Square in Nagpur city on Friday (October 9, 2026).

Pind daan and tarpan are sacred Hindu ancestral rituals performed to honor departed souls with the belief of providing them spiritual peace.

Talking to reporters later, BJP's Nagpur city unit chief Dayashankar Tiwari said, "In Sanatan Dharma, it is said that if a person has a mental disorder, one of the many causes can be 'pitru dosh' (ancestral karmic imbalance) and the way Rahul Gandhi is behaving in the country and abroad, it seems that he has a mental disorder and is active in anti-national activities."

For this reason, the BJYM performed 'pitru shanti' by placing the photographs of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he said.
