Alexander Zverev will look to continue his strong run at the 2026 Shanghai Masters when he takes on Quentin Halys in the third round at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center. The German, seeded at the top of the draw, has dominated their previous meetings, winning all three encounters this season, including their clashes in Miami, at the French Open and at the US Open. However, their latest meeting in New York showed that Halys can make life difficult for the world-class baseline player, with the Frenchman pushing Zverev into a five-set battle that lasted more than four hours. Zverev arrives in Shanghai in impressive form, having won nine of his last 10 singles matches and moved past Wu Yibing in the previous round. He is also closing in on the milestone of 60 tour-level wins this season, giving him another target as he looks to progress further in the tournament.
Halys, meanwhile, will need to bring his best serving game if he hopes to challenge the German once again. The Frenchman has produced plenty of free points in Shanghai, averaging around 19 aces per match across his opening rounds while keeping the opportunities on his serve limited. His ability to maintain that level could make this a much tighter contest than the rankings suggest. Zverev’s returning skills and consistency from the baseline, though, give him a clear route to taking control if Halys’ first serve begins to falter. The Frenchman has struggled against top-10 opposition throughout his career, so converting his serving advantage into pressure on Zverev will be crucial. If the match develops into long rallies, Zverev’s experience and physical resilience could prove decisive as both players compete for a place in the Shanghai Masters fourth round.
