Afghanistan launched their T20 World Cup campaign in style, securing a convincing 125-run victory over Uganda in Group C.
Batting first after losing the toss, Afghanistan piled up an impressive 183 runs on the board. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (76) and Ibrahim Zadran (70) set the tone with solid half-centuries, while only Mohammad Nabi (14*) managed double digits among the lower order. Uganda’s bowlers Brian Masaba and Cosmas Kyewuta claimed two wickets, with Alpesh Ramjani chipping in with one.
Faced with a daunting target, Uganda’s batting crumbled under pressure. The entire team was dismissed for a mere 58 runs in just 16 overs. None of the Ugandan batsmen, except for Robinson Obuya (14 runs) and Riazat Ali Shah (11 runs), could find their footing. Afghanistan’s bowling attack was clinical, with Fazalhaq Farooqi leading the way with a five-wicket haul. Naveen-ul-Haq and skipper Rashid Khan each took two wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman grabbed one.
This emphatic victory puts Afghanistan in a strong position at the top of Group C.
