A daily commute that once involved lengthy detours through Allwyn Junction, navigating the Hafeezpet flyover or waiting for oncoming vehicles to clear a narrow railway underpass, could now become up to 30 minutes shorter for thousands of motorists travelling between Chandanagar and Hyderabad’s IT corridor.

The Vaishali Nagar Railway Underpass (RUB) in Miyapur has finally opened to two-way traffic after nearly four months of road widening, drainage works and repeated traffic diversions, offering a more direct route towards Hitec City and Gachibowli.

The upgraded underpass, connecting My Home Mangala Road with Manjeera Pipeline Road, now has two clearly demarcated lanes separated by a row of red-and-white flexible bollards. The reopened facility has vehicles moving simultaneously in opposite directions beneath the railway tracks, with height-restriction barriers installed at the entrances.

The widened carriageway, concrete retaining walls and drainage grates across the road are also in place to mitigate water logging.

A one-way facility previously

Previously, the narrow passage operated as a one-way facility, with traffic from one direction having to be stopped to allow vehicles approaching from the opposite side to pass. The arrangement frequently resulted in queues and delays, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.

Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-I) S. Ravi Kumar said the two-way facility would significantly improve connectivity between Chandanagar, HITEC City and Gachibowli, while reducing congestion on alternative routes through Lingampally and the Hafeezpet flyover.
