Drowning in Rara Lake

A young man has lost his life in a drowning accident at Rara Lake. 21-year-old Shishir Jung Rawal, from Chhayanath Rara Municipality-5, was reportedly swimming with friends yesterday, July 4th, when the incident occurred in the eastern part of the lake.

Rawal was working on a bicycle lane being constructed along the lakeshore. According to his uncle, Narendra Rawal, Shishir was returning home with friends when he decided to go for a swim. Sadly, he drowned while in the water.

The Nepali Army responded swiftly, dispatching two boats from the Hanuman Dwaj Gulm to the scene. Additional support arrived from Rara Airport and the District Police Office, and together they were able to recover the body from the lake.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Thapa of the Mugu District Police Office confirmed that Rawal’s body was transported to the district hospital for a post-mortem examination.
