Bhai Tika Rainfall

During Bhai Tika this year, light to moderate rain is expected in various parts of Nepal, according to the Department of Water and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division. The department reported sporadic showers across parts of the country on Friday due to recent weather changes.

Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari explained that the weather will continue to fluctuate through Bhai Tika, with light to moderate rain anticipated on Sunday, especially in hilly areas of Koshi Province and parts of the Terai, as well as in the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces. Kathmandu Valley may also experience light, brief rainfall. “Rainfall, if it occurs, will be short-lived and localized,” Adhikari added.

Western and local winds are influencing the weather patterns across Nepal. The Mahashakha’s Friday evening weather bulletin noted a likelihood of light rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and select areas in other hilly regions through Saturday evening. Light snowfall is also possible in higher hills and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, prompting officials to advise caution due to potential impacts on agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, and transportation.

Temperatures across Nepal, including Kathmandu Valley, are expected to drop in the coming week. Climate expert Dr. Dharmaraj Upreti predicts a significant temperature drop around November 9, potentially falling to 3 degrees Celsius in some areas. “The Meteorological Department of India has forecasted colder weather after November 9,” Dr. Upreti noted, explaining that cold temperatures typically begin around the end of October in Nepal.

As of Friday night, Kathmandu’s temperature was recorded at 16 degrees Celsius. Public health experts caution that the colder weather can bring health issues such as asthma, colds, and fevers, as well as create conditions for certain bacteria to persist in the air longer.
