Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham is in mourning. Oscar Fairs, goalkeeper of the under 15 team, has died after a “brave battle against cancer”.

Fairs had been fighting a seven-centimetre brain tumor since August 2023 that caused him migraines and severe headaches. Once identified – it took a while – the young goalkeeper underwent surgery seven times. He also underwent chemo and radiotherapy treatments, but without success. Rest in peace. RIP

Mark Noble, former captain and now sporting director of West Ham, was in charge of announcing the tragic outcome: “Oscar was adored by everyone at the Academy: not only was he a great goalkeeper, he was a true ‘hammer’ and a fantastic young man, who will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.”

“I have wonderful memories of Oscar playing in my garden: Lenny and his teammates adored him. He was a friendly, happy, well-mannered young man, who had a bright future ahead of him. It is devastating that he was separated from his family and friends at this age,” Noble lamented.

West Ham announced that, as a sign of respect, all youth teams have postponed their matches. “The club will also share information about our plans to pay tribute to Oscar, and we will ensure that his name is never forgotten,” Mark Noble closed his statement.
