A potential disaster was narrowly avoided on August 13 when a section of the road leading from Baneshwor Chowk to Shankhamul began to collapse.
According to Kishor Kumar Bhattarai, a city police inspector, a small sinkhole appeared in the road after a water pipe leak created a tunnel-like cavity beneath the surface. Upon inspection, authorities discovered a significantly larger void.
“The situation was quite alarming,” Bhattarai said. “Had this gone unnoticed, it could have led to a major accident. We’re currently using heavy machinery to excavate the area and assess the damage before proceeding with road repairs.”
The road remains closed to traffic while authorities work to stabilize the situation.
