Daniil Medvedev booked his place in the semifinals of the Vienna Open 2026 and secured qualification for the ATP Finals after defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3 in their quarterfinal on Friday. However, the match was briefly interrupted by a worrying incident when a ball kid collapsed during play and had to be taken off the court on a stretcher.
The incident occurred in the opening set when Mannarino was serving at 0-2 and 40-30. As the players were in the middle of a point, chair umpire Manuel Messina noticed that a ball kid had collapsed behind Medvedev and called a let to stop the match.
Both Medvedev and Mannarino stopped playing and went towards the youngster to check on him. The chair umpire also left his seat as officials and medical staff rushed to provide assistance.
