US POLITICS ENTERS THE GUTTER

Little doubt exists in the minds of political observers that the US midterm elections due on 3 November will be crucial in determining whether President Trump can fulfil his broad agenda for governance. Should pollsters be correct and confirm on Election Night that the Democrats have retaken control of the US House of Representatives and the US Senate, the Trump Presidency will be crippled.

A slew of investigations against President Trump are likely through Democrat-controlled Congressional committees, the aim of which would be to impeach the 47th President of the US. Even should such a move not succeed, their expectation is that the findings of these committees about the way the Trump family has enriched itself during the Presidency of Donald Trump would assure a Democrat succeeding Trump as the next President of the US by 2029. Small wonder that several Republican contenders for the US Congressional and gubernatorial races are now resorting to what many have termed the politics of the gutter.

They hold as one of their examples of such Republican politicking the advertisements paid for by the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign in which the mother of his rival has some choice invective against her daughter. It seems obvious that the mother is suffering from the various paranoidal fantasies that those who are severely depressed are prone to. After all, the mother has been looked after financially by her daughter for several years.
