US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence about Washington’s position in its conflict with Iran while signalling that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could take place soon.
Speaking to reporters outside Air Force One in Maryland on October 27, after returning from Texas, Trump suggested that a deal with Tehran was possible but claimed Iran was delaying negotiations. He also said progress was being made towards bringing Moscow and Kyiv back to the negotiating table.
The remarks come ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections, with rising fuel prices and the ongoing Iran conflict adding pressure on the Republican administration.

Trump said the United States was in a strong position in its dealings with Iran and suggested that Tehran could be waiting for the US midterm elections before making a decision on a potential agreement.
“It’s a question of when do I want to end it,” Trump told reporters, adding that Iran had wanted a deal but was prolonging the process. He said waiting until after the election would not benefit Tehran. Trump did not announce a new agreement or provide a timeline for ending the conflict.
