A tragic road accident occurred on the East-West Highway in Kanchanrup, Saptari on August 16 claiming the lives of two motorcycle riders.
The victims have been identified as 41-year-old Mahesh Kumar Mehta, a resident of Harinagara Rural Municipality, Sunsari, and his pillion rider, 42-year-old Jaiprakash Mehta.
According to Saptari Police Spokesperson DSP Dhundiraj Neupane, the fatal collision took place when a diesel-laden tanker, bearing registration number Ko 1 Kha 7414, collided head-on with the motorcycle at Kanchanrup Municipality-10. Mahesh died instantly at the accident site, while Jaiprakash sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The tanker driver, 32-year-old Mithlesh Yadav from Karjanha Municipality, Siraha, also suffered injuries in the accident and is admitted to Dharmeshwar Hospital in Theliya. His condition is reported to be stable.
Local police have impounded both the motorcycle and the tanker involved in the accident and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
