Panchthar: Two young children tragically lost their lives after a grenade exploded in their home in Phalelung Rural Municipality-5 of Panchthar district.

Dilip Sawa’s two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Prinsa, and 11-year-old son, Dipsan, died in the incident. Prinsa passed away while being transported to the hospital for treatment, while Dipsan succumbed to his injuries in Ilam.

The explosion occurred at Aitaraj Kerung’s house around 3:30 PM on Thursday. Dilip’s family was residing in Kerung’s home at the time. Four of Dilip’s children were injured in the blast, with Prinsa and Dipsan tragically losing their lives. The condition of the other two children, a 9-year-old son named Pawan and another child, is reportedly stable.

Preliminary investigations conducted by Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala suggest that the object that exploded was a hand grenade. Additionally, another suspicious object resembling a bomb was discovered near the blast site. This iron ingot, which appeared rusted, was suspected to be an explosive substance. As a result, the Nepali Army’s bomb disposal team was dispatched to the scene. The area has been cordoned off by the Nepal Police to ensure security.

Chief District Officer Koirala stated that further details regarding the explosion and the nature of the suspicious object would be available once the army team completes its assessment.
