A truck driver has been sentenced to prison following a fatal accident in Gatthaghar, Bhaktapur. Malang Satendra Shrestha, a resident of Sarlahi, was the driver of the truck involved in the collision that claimed the life of a scooter rider in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3 Gatthaghar.
According to District Police Complex Bhaktapur’s DSP Mohanmani Adhikari, Shrestha was sent to jail on September 9, 2024, after a court order. The Bhaktapur District Court Judge Bidyanath Bhattarai ruled that Shrestha would be imprisoned for his involvement in the accident.
Shrestha was charged with negligent driving under subsection (2) of section 161 of the Traffic Management and Traffic Act 2048. The law stipulates that individuals who cause death while driving negligently without the intent to kill can face imprisonment ranging from 2 to 10 years, depending on the severity of the offense.
