The Unknown 9 franchise is canceled

Last year the Bandai Namco brand had its successes and failures, given that it did quite well with the Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, a title that returned the greatness of the Budokai Tenkaichi saga, which was thought to be extinct after many years. On the other side of the coin in the part of not so good games was Unkonwn 9: Awakening, an Uncharted-type action title that no one ended up liking, resulting in a low reception from the press and players.

The Reflector Entertainment studio has announced the end of its ambitious franchise, as it was a transmedia series that sought to combine video games, comics, podcasts and web series. The cancellation comes after the disappointing performance of the game that marked the beginning of this saga and which failed to meet the expectations of the studio or the players.

According to Herve Hoerdt, head of the studio, the game starring Anya Chalotra (The Witcher) did not justify the development of more content in the Unknown 9 universe. As a result, a second project that was in the conceptualization phase was also canceled, closing permanently. this line of development.

The original vision included a broad narrative supported by different transmedia formats. However, although several of these products were released, they failed to garner enough attention to maintain interest in the franchise.

The closure of the Unknown 9 saga has led Reflector to make a second round of layoffs, after a first series of cuts in November 2024. Now, the studio will focus on a single project based on an existing Bandai Namco property, which, according to Hoerdt, “is taking good shape” for the immediate future of the team.

The game is still available on different platforms, but unfortunately it went unnoticed.
