This year’s third issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine revealed that Kentarō Miura’s BERSERK manga will resume in the magazine’s next issue, releasing in Japan on February 14. The manga has been on hiatus since November 8th.
Miura died on May 6, 2021 due to an acute aortic dissection at the age of 54. The manga stopped after his death, but then resumed in Young Animal in June 2022 thanks to the commitment of his staff of friends and assistants. The manga now has the following credits: “Original work by Kentarō Miura, manga by Studio Gaga, supervision by Kouji Mori”.
Studio Gaga is Miura’s studio with his assistants and apprentices who also worked on BERSERK alongside him. Mori is a close childhood friend of Miura, with whom the latter often consulted on the details of the plot of BERSERK. In June 2022 Mori declared that he “knew the story of the opera to the end”. In 2021 Mori drew a one-shot Young Animal manga chronicling his lifelong friendship and creative relationship with Miura.
The final volume of the manga, the forty-second, is the first volume of the manga since Studio Gaga and Mori continued after Miura’s death. The volume was released in Japan in September 2023 and in Italy in June 2024 under the Planet Manga label.
