For a couple of years now we’ve heard that PlayStation was working on a Horizon MMO in collaboration with NCsoft. While the project was never officially confirmed, it had been mentioned that this was one of the many games as a service that were approved by Jim Ryan’s administration. However, and as has happened with similar titles in recent months, the Horizon MMO would have already been canceled.
Although we didn’t know much about this title, it was announced some time ago that NCsoft was working on a Project H, which rumors and work requests pointed to the Horizon MMO. Now, during a flexibility review, the South Korean studio has confirmed that multiple projects have been canceled, including Project H.
Sony, for its part, has not issued a statement confirming or denying that a Horizon MMO was even in development, much less that it has been cancelled. This rumor arose in 2022, and over three years we had little information about this project, although multiple sources assured that this game as a service was a reality, and would keep the public entertained as the third installment in Aloy’s adventure arrived. .
The cancellation of the Horizon MMO comes to light just days after two other PlayStation games as a service were canceled. This makes it clear that Jim Ryan’s great initiative has completely failed. On related topics, you can learn more about the other canceled games here. Likewise, LEGO Horizon Adventures would come to Xbox.
Author’s Note:
It is clear that we will not see more games as a service on PlayStation. The failure of Concord was so great that it killed any hope Sony had in this market. For some this is positive, but we must not forget that we are talking about years of work that have been thrown away.
