Magic: the Gathering opens the year with a race against time and boredom: the most famous card game in the world changes the name of its plan from Kaladesh to Avishkar (to find out more, take a look here) and What better way to celebrate with a run at Eatherspark? In this expansion we will see crazy vehicles, crazed goblins, super-fierce planeswalkers and combat beyond belief. Start your engines!
Take inspiration
We often hear players saying “what a drag this Mondi Elsewhere is: Magic doesn’t need it!” or “But what does Optimus Prime represent to me in Magic?” yet, in Wizards, it has always been done! For over thirty years, in fact, there have been inspirational elements and quotes of all sorts: here in Avishkar for example it won’t be strange to meet Chandra on Akira’s motorbike, a goblin who drives the Death Race vehicles and finally, crazy centaurs on vehicles taken directly from Mad Max. Well yes, they are neither Secret Lair nor collaborations but simple inspirations that have always been there over the years.
Start the engines
On the starting grid we will find the 10 teams that will compete in this no holds barred race:
Guidelight Voyagers
Speed Demons
The Champions of Amonkhet
Goblin Rocketeers
Alacrian Quickbeasts
The Endriders
Chordatan Keelhaulers
The Speedbrood
Cloudspire Racing Team
Aether Rangers
Each of the teams is reminiscent of the American NASCAR teams in a certain sense and carries their flag on the asphalt (and beyond). Precisely for this reason there is the introduction of the new mechanic “Start Your Engines!” i.e. starting the engines: when a creature with Start Your Engines enters the Battlefield, if you don’t have any “Speed” token you will get 1. Whenever an opponent loses life points during your turn, you will get an extra point (the effect activates only once per turn). At the arrival of the 4th point you will have reached the “Max-Speed!” and some cards will reveal their true nature: at that point you will have additional power available, for example some lands could give you more mana or other creatures give you the opportunity to draw extra cards.
A complete expansion
Aetherdrift will officially arrive on shelves on February 14th, while for digital fans on Magic Arena it will arrive a little earlier, on February 11th. At your disposal you will have the classic Play Booster boxes, the Collector Boxes which will contain twelve packs which, in turn, will contain at least one First Place Foil while the boxes will guarantee the Gold Foil variant of the basic lands. In the Finish Line Bundle we will find the classic special D20 and packages of all kinds.
Present as always are the Pre-release bundles, which will be held starting from February 7th (and until the 13th), and will contain the classic 6 Play Boosters with the die dedicated to each color and rightly a special foil with the date of the event. There will also be two very interesting pre-constructed decks for the Commander format. Everything is ready therefore, we leave you with the image gallery.
