It began on September 16 and, according to the ‘Daily Mail’, the hearing has just concluded, specifically last Friday. The Premier League’s case against Manchester City for the alleged 115 violations of financial ‘Fair Play’ is being considered for sentencing. “Final arguments in a case with huge ramifications for English football were completed on Friday, and a three-man panel is now considering the evidence before delivering a verdict in the coming months,” the English newspaper reads.
The verdict could be known in the next month. However, both parties may file an appeal against that resolution. And in that case, according to information from the ‘Daily Mail’, it is possible that a final decision will not be issued until the end of the next season, which would take much longer.
The alleged events occurred between 2009 and 2018 and were reported in 2023 after a four-year investigation, which began in December 2018 after ‘Der Spiegel’ published documents from Football Leaks. The trial, surrounded by secrecy, is being held at the IDRC (International Dispute Resolution Centre) in London.
Even the descent
If Manchester City, which has since denied the wrongdoing of which it is accused, is found guilty of some of the most serious charges, it could face huge financial penalties, point deductions or even relegation.
During the period in which Manchester City is accused of committing those 115 infractions, the club invested nearly 1.5 billion euros to become the new ‘big’ of the Premier. They won the first one in 2011… and have won eight since then. Plenary in the last four years.
