Spain Edge Past Italy

Spain secured their spot in the Euro 2024 knockout stages with a narrow 1-0 victory over Italy in Gelsenkirchen. The match’s only goal came in the 55th minute when Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori unfortunately turned the ball into his own net.

This win marks Spain’s second consecutive victory in Group B, having previously thrashed Croatia 3-0. Meanwhile, Italy tasted defeat for the first time in the tournament after their opening match win against Albania.

Despite the loss, Italy remain in second place with 3 points and a good chance of progressing. Croatia and Albania are tied on one point each after two games. The final group fixtures will see Spain face Albania, while Italy takes on Croatia.

The race for the remaining knockout spots in Group B is wide open, with all three remaining teams – Italy, Croatia, and Albania – needing favorable results in their final matches to secure their place in the next round.
