Sheikh Hasina, who recently resigned from her position as Prime Minister, will not be returning to the political arena in Bangladesh, her son has announced.
Hasina stepped down on Monday following the escalation of a student movement protesting against the reservation policy. She has since relocated to India with her family. However, she has not sought political asylum there, leading to speculation that she may head to London, UK.
In an interview with the BBC, Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed, who served as an economic advisor during her tenure, mentioned that Hasina had contemplated her resignation as early as Sunday.
Wazed stated, “When she took office, Bangladesh was on the brink of failure, plagued by poverty. Today, it is recognized as the rising tiger of Asia.”
He added that Hasina is deeply disheartened by the minority communities turning against her despite her efforts to support them. Wazed emphasized that Hasina will not return to politics, having left the country for the sake of her family and personal safety.
