Kathmandu, Nepal โ The Institute of Engineering Studies at Pulchowk College has made significant strides in alternative energy technology by developing a vehicle that runs on both petrol and hydrogen. The vehicle was officially launched on Monday by Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Debendra Dahal.
Led by Dr. Prakash Thapa, the research team successfully converted a traditional petrol-powered engine to utilize hydrogen extracted from another old car. This innovative approach reduces petrol consumption, offering a promising solution to the country’s transportation challenges.
Minister Dahal expressed his enthusiasm for this development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to innovation and technology. He highlighted the potential of alternative energy sources like hydrogen in achieving a prosperous and environmentally sustainable Nepal.
The successful conversion of the vehicle demonstrates the feasibility of reviving older vehicles through this technology, thereby reducing the need for scrapping and promoting a more circular economy. The ministry also pledged to support the industrial production and use of hydrogen in Nepal, given its natural abundance.
The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including MP Thakur Gaire, former Minister Karna Bahadur Thapa, and the ministry’s secretary, Keshav Kumar Sharma. Participants had the opportunity to experience a test drive in the converted vehicle.
