Biratchowk: The District Administration Office in Biratnagar has imposed a prohibitory order in the city following former Chief Minister Kedar Karki’s commencement of a hunger strike in front of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.
The district administration cited concerns about potential disruptions to peace and security as the reason for the order. The indefinite prohibition, effective from 3 PM today, was implemented based on the decision of the Morang District Security Committee.
Morang Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Bhattarai announced that the order restricts all forms of assemblies, processions, meetings, rallies, sit-ins, and exhibitions. The injunction was issued under Section 6 (3a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028.
The prohibitory order encompasses several areas in Biratnagar, including Devkota Chowk, Koshi Hospital Chowk, Rodshesh Chowk, Dakshin Jatuwa Chowk, the 300-meter radius around the Chief Minister’s residence and office, and the district administration office.
Former Chief Minister Kedar Karki initiated his hunger strike today, demanding that Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki address his nine-point ultimatum within 48 hours. Karki had previously threatened to resort to a hunger strike if his demands were not met.
