BIRATNAGAR, Nepal – Police in Birgunj have seized a large quantity of smuggled goods, including clothes, chocolates, and onions, brought in from India to avoid customs duties. The estimated value of the seized items is Rs. 1.5 million.

The goods were intercepted by a team from the Ward Police Office Birta. They have been transferred to the Birgunj Customs Office for necessary action.

Experts suggest that even with increased police vigilance at main border checkpoints, smugglers continue to exploit the open border between India and Nepal to bring in goods without paying customs revenue.
