Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office is set to revolutionize the way traffic fines are issued and paid in the capital city. A new system that allows drivers to receive and pay ‘e-challans’ (digital tickets) directly through the Nagarik App is being implemented.

This innovative approach aims to eliminate the hassle of physical tickets and provide a more convenient and efficient method for handling traffic violations. By scanning a QR code displayed on the driver’s mobile device, traffic police officers will be able to record the offense and issue a digital ticket.

Drivers will then be able to view the details of the violation, including the fine amount, in the Nagarik App. A digital wallet feature will enable them to pay the fine immediately using their mobile device.

The new system will initially be rolled out in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur districts. Traffic police officers will be equipped with specialized devices for issuing digital tickets.

In addition to the digital ticketing system, the traffic police have also introduced a virtual driver’s license feature. Drivers can now present their licenses digitally through the Citizen App, eliminating the need for physical cards. This measure is expected to address the issue of delayed or non-printing of physical licenses.

The implementation of these digital solutions marks a significant step towards modernizing traffic management and improving the overall driving experience in Kathmandu.
