The NFL fined San Francisco 49ers player Nick Bosa $11,255 for wearing a cap with the legend ‘Make America Great Again’, Donald Trump’s campaign slogan.
Bosa, who joined the San Francisco 49ers after being selected in the first round of the 2019 Draft, appeared with the cap on October 27 while an NBC reporter was interviewing his teammates George Kittle, Brock Purdy and Isaac Guerendo at the end of the game that San Francisco won against the Dallas Cowboys. He stepped in behind Purdy and pointed his finger at the message on his cap.
The San Francisco 49ers player, a supporter of Donald Trump for years, already commented that he did not mind facing a possible fine: “It was something that was worth it. I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think it was a important time to say it,” he said.
The NFL made the fine official this Saturday for violating the uniform and equipment rule: “During the period of game day in which a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the area bench and during post-game interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from using, displaying or otherwise transmitting personal messages, whether in writing or in illustrations, unless such message has been previously approved by the League office. The sanction has only been financial, so Bosa will not miss any games.
