Nepal’s government has set an ambitious target of exporting Rs 3 trillion worth of information technology (IT) services in the next 10 years. This plan, announced in the recent budget speech, aims to position IT as the backbone of the country’s economy and create significant job opportunities.

Key Highlights:

  • Export Target: Rs 3 trillion in IT exports over 10 years.
  • Job Creation: Goal to create 500,000 direct and 1 million indirect IT jobs.
  • IT Infrastructure: Establishment of IT Parks in Kathmandu Valley and Butwal, with funding allocated for data centers and intellectual property protection.
  • Knowledge Hub: Rs 170 million was allocated to build a knowledge park at Khumaltar in Lalitpur.

  • Utilize existing government and private buildings to establish IT Parks.
  • Create co-working spaces within the parks for 3 years.
  • Implement measures to ensure secure storage of electronic data.
