Kathmandu, Nepal โ€“ Nepal has officially selected the acclaimed drama film “Shambhala” as its submission for the 98th Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category.

Directed by Min Bahadur Bham and featuring a screenplay co-written with Abinash Bikram Shah, “Shambhala” offers a poignant exploration of life in a Himalayan polyandrous village. The film stars Thinley Lhamo, Tenzin Dalha, and Sonam Topden, who deliver powerful performances.

Centered around the newlywed Pema, “Shambhala” delves into the complexities of marriage, tradition, and personal freedom within a unique cultural context. The film’s stunning cinematography and evocative storytelling have garnered critical acclaim and audience praise.

As Nepal’s official submission, “Shambhala” will now join a competitive field of international films vying for the prestigious Oscar. The Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in March 2025.
