Kathmandu: Nepal showcased a commanding performance in the first half of their SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 match against the Maldives, scoring four goals at Dasharath Stadium. The home team maintained firm control of the game from the outset, applying relentless pressure and creating several scoring opportunities.
Preeti Rai opened the scoring in the 6th minute, converting a corner pass from Sabita Rana Magar with a precise shot from the left side. Sabita herself doubled the lead in the 29th minute, firing a stunning goal from outside the box that left the Maldivian defense scrambling.
Nepal’s momentum continued, with Rekha Paudel netting two goals in quick succession. Her first came in the 32nd minute, when she skillfully chest-trapped a cutback pass from Rashmikumari Ghising and slotted it into the net. Rekha added another goal in the 42nd minute, capitalizing on a well-placed pass from Sabita.
Nepal’s star forward, Sabitra Bhandari, known as a goal-scoring machine, was a notable presence on the bench during the first half, while her teammates took charge on the field.
Despite missing other scoring chances, including Bimala Chaudhary’s free kick that hit the bar in the 38th minute, Nepal’s offensive dominance was clear, leaving Maldives struggling to keep up.
With a 4-0 lead at halftime, Nepal looks set to secure a strong victory as they head into the second half of this thrilling match.
