Kathmandu, Nepal โ Nepal will lock horns with Bhutan in the first semi-final of the ongoing SAFF U-20 Championship today, August 25, at 3 PM. The match will be held at the ANFA Complex ground in Satdobato.
The Nepali team, aiming to clinch the title on home soil, entered the semi-finals as the group winners after securing victories over Sri Lanka (1-0) and Bangladesh (2-1) in Group A.
Meanwhile, Bhutan qualified for the last four as Group B runners-up. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to India in their opening match but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Maldives.
Nepal exhibited a strong performance in the group stage, scoring three goals and conceding only one. Nirajan Dhami’s goal proved to be the match-winner against Sri Lanka. In the second match against Bangladesh, Samir Tamang scored a goal while also benefiting from an own goal.
Bhutan’s campaign saw them score two goals and concede two. However, the team faced disciplinary issues, with one player being sent off in each of their group-stage matches.
