Nepal Defies the Odds, Reaches SAFF Women’s Championship Final

In a thrilling display of determination and skill, Nepal has secured its place in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship. The Nepali women’s team overcame a 10-player disadvantage and a controversial refereeing decision to defeat India 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with India taking the lead in the 72nd minute. However, Nepal fought back, equalizing through a stunning long-range strike from Preeti Rai. The game was then halted for over an hour due to a dispute over the goal.

Upon resumption, Sabitra Bhandari scored the equalizer for Nepal, sending the match into a penalty shootout. Substitute goalkeeper Anjana Ranamgar emerged as the hero, saving crucial penalties to secure Nepal’s victory.

With this historic win, Nepal will face defending champions Bangladesh in the final on Wednesday. This will be Nepal’s sixth appearance in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship, but they have yet to clinch the title.

Coach Rajendra Tamang expressed confidence in his team’s ability to win the final, while Sabitra Bhandari dedicated the victory to the Nepali fans.
