A nature guide in Nepal’s Chitwan National Park has tragically died after being attacked by a rhinoceros on Saturday morning. Subas Regmi, 32, was leading tourists through the park when he was attacked at approximately 11:50 AM. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries at Chitwan Medical College.
Regmi was a licensed nature guide working at the Jungle World Resort in Sauraha. The tourists he was guiding at the time of the attack were unharmed.
Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, Information Officer for Chitwan National Park, emphasized the rarity of such incidents, calling it a “tragedy” occurring on New Year’s Day. A search effort involving four elephants was deployed to locate Regmi after the attack.
Regmi’s body is currently at the Bharatpur Hospital awaiting a post-mortem.
