Mexico Edges Past Jamaica

Mexico kicked off their Copa America 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Jamaica at NRG Stadium in Texas on Sunday morning.

Gerardo Arteaga emerged as the hero for El Tri, scoring the winning goal in the 69th minute. The match remained tense throughout, with Jamaica nearly taking the lead in the 50th minute through Michail Antonio. However, a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review overturned the goal, keeping the score level.

Despite the win, there was a concerning moment for Mexico as captain Edson Alvarez was forced off the field in the 30th minute with a hamstring issue. The extent of his injury remains unknown.

With this victory, Mexico secures three points atop Group B. They’ll look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
