US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has denied reports that his country was involved in  Flávio Bolsonaro’s exit from Brazil. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has stated that Senator Bolsonaro can stay on US soil as long as he wants, in a generous gesture. The Brazilian leader arrived in Miami on October 28, reportedly via a route involving Argentina and Ecuador.

President Trump Says Flávio Bolsonaro Can Stay Indefinitely

While speaking with reporters recently at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump voiced sympathy for Bolsonaro and said he was welcome to stay in the US for as long as he liked. Trump said, “I think he got treated very shabbily, very shabbily, so he can stay here as long as he wants.”

The US president also condemned the aftermath of the Brazilian election results, calling it a “disgrace” in his view. Trump did say, though, that he had no plans to meet with Bolsonaro. His comments follow the Brazilian senator’s defeat by Lula in the October 25 run-off. Bolsonaro has contested the election result and claimed irregularities without offering any evidence.
