Lebanon’s Hezbollah group has launched hundreds of missiles at northern Israel following the assassination of a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
On Sunday, Hezbollah fired numerous rockets and drones at Israel in retaliation for the killing of the commander, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut last month.
Israel claims to have thwarted a potentially larger attack with a pre-emptive strike. The situation escalated further on Sunday, marking the most intense exchange since tensions between Hezbollah and Israel reignited.
Before the attack, around 100 Israeli jets targeted over 40 Hezbollah launch sites in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah stated that it had launched more than 320 Katyusha rockets and several drones at Israel, hitting 11 military sites. The group also mentioned that Israel had completed the “first phase” of its response to Shukr’s assassination and warned that a full retaliation would take “some time.”
Shukr’s death followed an Israeli missile attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which resulted in the deaths of 12 youths, further heightening tensions between the two sides.
