Melamchi Municipality faces renewed transportation challenges after heavy rains last night caused a temporary bridge to collapse. The bridge, located in Ward 11, was a crucial link for residents, connecting Melamchi Bazar to other wards within the municipality and neighboring Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality and parts of Helambu.
According to Aitaman Tamang, the head of Melamchi Municipality, the bridge was a temporary structure built using a hump pipe after the original bridge was destroyed by floods in 2021. The recent downpour proved too much for the temporary solution.
Tamang added that authorities will now remove the damaged hump pipe and store it safely. This disruption to transportation links highlights the need for a permanent bridge replacement.
