Florent Malouda, a former footballer who was international with France and won the 2012 Champions League with Chelsea, has joined the Foreign Legion at the age of 44.
The former Chateauroux, Guingamp, Olympique Lyon, Chelsea, Trabzonspor, Metz, Delhi Dynamos, Wadi Degla and FC Differdange 03 player has joined the citizen reserve of the Third Foreign Infantry Regiment (CEFE Autorités du 3e Régiment étranger d’infanterie) of the French Army.

The 3e regiment étranger d’infanterie (le 3e REI), which is based in Kourou and specializes in combat in the equatorial jungle, was created in 1920 and is the most decorated regiment of the Foreign Legion of the French army.

The French government describes the citizen reserve as “a system that allows civilians (often recognized in their fields) to make a voluntary contribution to promote the values and missions of the military institution, without being military personnel.”

Florent Malouda underwent intense training with the Foreign Legion in the Amazon
Florent Malouda, who is a native of French Guiana (French overseas territory) and was capped 80 times by France, entered the Equatorial Forest Training Center to undergo the Third Foreign Infantry Regiment course in which they were tested physically and mentally with in extreme conditions.

“While passing through the Amazon in my native territory, I was able to follow an initiation course with the Third Foreign Infantry Regiment. Thanks to the 3e REI for this moment of cohesion and for these values of team spirit in the face of adversity. They are essential values in high-level sport,” the former soccer player published on his Instagram account, publishing images of his military training in the Foreign Legion.
