Myagdi: Heavy rainfall on Saturday night triggered severe flooding and landslides in the Benibazar region of Myagdi district, causing significant damage to infrastructure and disrupting transportation.
Schools, senior citizens’ ashrams, and roads were among the affected areas. A Bolero jeep (Ga 2 Cha 9355) traveling from Pokhara to Beni was swept away by the flood in Beni municipality-1 Hulake, but the passengers escaped unharmed.
The classroom of the Panchkothe building at Jadbharat Sanskrit Secondary School in Beni municipality-9 was inundated. In Beni municipality-8, the Kalipul Bus Park and the entrance area were damaged due to flooding in the Kholsa River.
A landslide on the Beni-Jomsom road caused water from ditches and drains to flow into the settlement, flooding the Pulhapulatsya Annakshetra and the canteen of the Galeshwar Senior Citizens Ashram. Armed police and residents worked tirelessly to clear the floodwaters and repair the damage.
Major roads in Myagdi were blocked due to landslides and flooding. The Baglung-Beni road in Hulake, Beni-Jomsom road in Galeshwar, Beni-Darbang road in Agnikhet, Singa, Ghumwanema, and Maldhunga-Beni road were all affected.
The relevant local authorities, infrastructure development office, and Beni-Jomsom-Korla road project are coordinating efforts to clear landslides and restore traffic flow.
As a result of the road closures, transportation links between Myagdi and the neighboring districts of Baglung, Parbat, and Mustang have been disrupted.
