Heavy rainfall has triggered devastating floods in Gadedhara village, Suryabinayak Municipality-5 Dadhikot. Approximately 30 houses have been inundated, with water levels reaching up to four feet on the ground floor of most affected homes.
Residents reported that the Dhungrekhola river overflowed its banks, causing extensive damage estimated at over Rs. 30 lakhs. The sudden surge of water forced many families to seek refuge on the upper floors of their homes in the middle of the night.
Kala Thapa, a resident, described the terrifying ordeal, stating that the water level rose rapidly, reaching the height of their windows. The community has long grappled with flooding issues due to increased settlement and the river’s narrowing, but this year’s deluge has been unprecedented in its severity.
Residents are now facing a shortage of food and sleep, their lives disrupted by the disaster. Local ward officials and leaders have visited the area to assess the damage, but frustrated residents claim that their repeated calls for a protective river corridor have been ignored.
The collapse of a river wall has exacerbated the situation, damaging a nearby food company. Police are currently on the ground to evaluate the extent of the damage and are expected to release a comprehensive report later today.
