Former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun’s son Dipesh Pun has been arrested in the gold smuggling case.
According to police sources, a team deployed from the police headquarters, Naxal, arrested him.
While Dipesh Pun’s association with Chinese gold smugglers was noted, he remained outside the purview of the police investigation. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) released Dipesh in the 61 kg gold smuggling case after subjecting him to a standard interrogation. However, mounting pressure for investigation arose following revelations implicating Dipesh’s brother, Jitendra, and Jeevan Kumar Gurung, a foreign affairs expert associated with Nanda Bahadur Pun, who served as Vice President at the time, in smuggling activities.
Additionally, Dipesh, son of the former Vice President Pun, was cleared of charges in a cooperative fraud case. He is also implicated in the misappropriation of 78.5 crores belonging to 10,000 savers in Butwal. In this case, Dipesh Pun served as the treasurer alongside GB Rai, the president of the Supreme Cooperative involved in the mismanagement of funds.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, the police recently arrested him from Dhapasi.
