Dhulikhel, Nepal – Dhulikhel, a picturesque tourist town in the Kavrepalanchowk district, has made history by becoming the first city in Nepal to receive the prestigious designation of “Healthy City” from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Meeting the rigorous criteria set by the global health agency, Dhulikhel was awarded a prize of USD 5,000 for achieving the second-highest score among cities in Asia. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Dr. Suvajee Good, Program Coordinator of the WHO Department of Ethics and Social Determinants.
India’s Pune City Banda currently holds the top spot as the first healthy city in Asia, with Dhulikhel following closely behind with a score of 65.48.
The recognition is a testament to Dhulikhel’s commitment to public health and sustainable development. The city’s achievements in areas such as policy reforms, environmental improvement, access to healthcare for all citizens, and progress in primary healthcare have earned it this prestigious title.
Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju expressed his pride and gratitude for Dhulikhel’s accomplishment, emphasizing the city’s dedication to creating a healthier and more sustainable community.
