Manchester United’s Sports Director, Dan Ashworth, leaves his position at the Mancunian club, which he joined just five months ago.
The 53-year-old sporting director landed at Old Trafford on July 1, after leaving Newcastle United. Upon his arrival he was praised by club co-owner Jim Ratcliffe as “one of the best sporting directors in the world”. However, it seems that the defeat last Saturday against Nottingham Forest (2-3) in the Premier League has had consequences.
The club through an official statement has stated: “Dan Ashworth will leave his position as sporting director of Manchester United by mutual agreement. We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a period of transition for the club and wish him the best for the club. future.”
Ashworth, along with the rest of Manchester United’s management team, was involved in the decision to extend the contract of now former manager Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman was dismissed in October, leading to a £10.4m compensation bill.
