The Basingstoke Youth Nepalese Community (BYNC) triumphed in the inaugural NRNA Cup, clinching the title in the first football tournament hosted by NRNA UK in Feltham, London on Saturday. BYNC was awarded £2,000 in cash and a medal. The runner-up, Plumstead Gunners, received £1,000 and a medal.
In the veteran category, Daddy’s FC emerged victorious, securing £1,000 and a medal, while the runner-up, Intake 04, was awarded £500 and a medal.
Kelvin was the top scorer in the non-veteran category with seven goals, while Bishal Tamang was named the best player. On the veteran side, Kabir Gurung was the highest scorer, and Khum Gurung was named the best player. The competition saw participation from a total of 40 teams, including 24 non-veteran and 16 veteran teams.
Prizes were presented to the winning teams and players by the chief guest, Aldershot Member of Parliament Alex Baker, along with NRNA UK President Prem Gahamagar, NRNA UK Founder President Mahant Shrestha, and other dignitaries.
The ‘9A Side’ NRNA Cup football tournament was organized with the theme ‘Sports for Health’ to showcase the talents of Nepalese youth in the UK.
MP Alex Baker expressed her gratitude for being part of her first major Nepali event since being elected. She emphasized the importance of the game in uniting communities and acknowledged the prosperity brought to her constituency by the increasing presence of Nepalis. She also committed to addressing the just demands of the former Gurkhas.
Chairman Prem Gahamagar declared the first NRNA Cup a complete success, thanking the audience, sponsors, donors, and players for their enthusiastic participation.
Key roles in organizing the event were played by Youth and Sports Coordinator Bishal Rai, Co-Coordinator and Financial Coordinator Asal Limbu, Member Secretary Nikesh Limbu, and NRNA UK Sports Development Chief Advisor Suresh Gurung.
