Biratchowk, Nepal – Today, Nepal is abuzz with the festivities of Bijaya Dashami, the tenth and final day of the grand Bada Dashain festival. The nation is united in celebrating the triumph of truth over falsehood, righteousness over wickedness, and the divine over the demonic.
The auspicious hour for receiving the sacred tika and blessings from elders has been determined to be 11:36 AM, according to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee. However, the entire day following the immersion of the Goddess is considered auspicious for this purpose.
The nine-day worship of Shree Durga Bhawani at Dasainghars culminates on Bijaya Dashami with the Abhishekh, a ritual of sprinkling holy water. This marks the official end of the festival and the beginning of the tika tradition.
People will continue to receive tika and jamara, the auspicious gifts of the goddess Nawa Durga, until the full moon day. These symbols are believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.
A unique aspect of Bijaya Dashami is that there is no need to seek an auspicious hour for starting new ventures, campaigns, or journeys on this auspicious day. It is considered a propitious time for new beginnings.
Bijaya Dashami commemorates the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the ultimate triumph of good over evil. The festival is a time for family gatherings, feasting, and rejoicing.
