Kathmandu: Today marks the fifth day of Yama Panchaka, and sisters across Nepal are honoring their brothers by applying the auspicious saptarangi tika. This day is the culmination of Tihar, the second-largest festival in Nepal, celebrated annually on the second day of Kartik Shukla Paksha.
The most auspicious time for Bhai Tika is believed to be 11:37 AM. Following the traditional ritual, sisters apply tika to their brothers, and in return, brothers apply tika to their sisters.
According to Prof. Dr. Debmani Bhattarai, a renowned theologian and member of the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee, there is a long-held belief that honoring one’s sisters brings good fortune and prosperity.
