Kathmandu, Nepal โ Bangladesh created a major upset in the SAFF U-20 Championship, defeating two-time defending champions Nepal 4-1 in the final. This victory marked Bangladesh’s first-ever title in the tournament.
The match, held at the ANFA complex in Satdobato, saw Bangladesh take the lead in the injury time of the first half through a direct free-kick from Mirajul Islam.
Nepal, determined to bounce back, played aggressively in the second half but couldn’t find the equalizer. Instead, Bangladesh extended their lead with Mirajul scoring his second goal of the match. Rabi added another goal for Bangladesh, making it 3-0.
Samir Tamang pulled one back for Nepal but it was too little, too late. Bangladesh sealed the victory with a fourth goal in the final minutes of the match.
This title is the latest addition to Bangladesh’s growing list of achievements in women’s football, having previously won the SAFF U-15 title and the SAFF women’s championship.
