A tragic bus accident occurred on Friday, August 23rd, in Tanahun District, Nepal, resulting in the deaths of 27 people. The incident took place when a bus carrying Indian passengers plunged into the Marshyangdi River near Aina Pahara.
The bus, with Indian registration number UP 53 FT 7623, was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Of the 27 fatalities, 26 occurred at the scene of the accident, while one person succumbed to their injuries in Chitwan.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Rai confirmed that the bodies of the victims were sent to Chitwan for a post-mortem examination. Additionally, 16 people were injured in the accident and were airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment at Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital.
The victims and injured passengers were all from Jalgaon district in India’s Maharashtra state.
Following the accident, a joint rescue operation was launched involving police, armed police, army personnel, and local volunteers. The teams worked tirelessly to recover the bodies and provide assistance to the injured.
